FAW J7 Launched in South Africa
Local time on March 31, the launch ceremony of the FAW J7 in South Africa was grandly held in Johannesburg, South Africa. Wu Peng, Chinese Ambassador to South Africa, Qiu Zhongyi, Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, and Zhang Xiaofan, Member of the Standing Committee and Deputy General Manager of China FAW Group Corporation, attended the ceremony. Also present were representatives from the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA), the Road Freight Association of South Africa (RFA), global partners and key customers of FAW Jiefang, as well as Chinese and overseas media. All guests witnessed this landmark moment together.
The FAW J7 is a high-end flagship heavy-duty truck developed by FAW Jiefang for the global market, benchmarked against European products. Focusing on customers’ core demands, it is committed to providing efficient, safe and reliable high-end transportation solutions, further consolidating and strengthening FAW Jiefang’s core competitive advantages in the global high-end heavy-duty truck sector. To meet the long-haul transportation needs of the South African market, the J7 is equipped with a high-efficiency powertrain, integrated aerodynamic design, intelligent fuel consumption management and a large-capacity dual-fuel tank system. These features effectively improve vehicle operating efficiency and cruising range, and substantially reduce overall operating costs. With full-life-cycle total cost of ownership (TCO) optimization as the guideline, the model has been comprehensively upgraded to enhance its overall competitiveness and precisely fit the South African logistics and transportation market.
Ambassador Wu Peng stated that China FAW has deeply rooted itself in the South African market for more than 30 years, investing in local manufacturing plants, creating jobs and contributing millions of US dollars in tax revenue, effectively supporting local livelihood improvement and economic development. Meanwhile, the company has actively fulfilled its social responsibilities, sponsoring six primary schools in the Coega Special Economic Zone for more than ten consecutive years, demonstrating the sense of responsibility of Chinese enterprises. With the signing of the Framework Agreement on Economic Partnership for Shared Development between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of South Africa, economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has embraced new opportunities. Ambassador Wu hoped that FAW Jiefang will seize the favorable opportunity of the deepening China-South Africa relations, give full play to its exemplary and leading role, help upgrade South Africa’s industrialization process, and make new and greater contributions to promoting automotive industry cooperation and bilateral relations between China and South Africa.
Zhang Xiaofan noted that the launch of the FAW J7 in South Africa is an important measure for China FAW to implement the national strategy of high-level opening-up and accelerate the internationalization strategy of FAW Jiefang “SPRINT 2030”. As a core strategic pivot for FAW Jiefang’s global layout, South Africa has achieved a profound transformation from single product export to localized production and services. FAW Jiefang has ranked first in vehicle sales in the market for two consecutive years, successfully setting a benchmark for the overseas development of China FAW. Going forward, FAW Jiefang will continue to take South Africa as its core, further increase resource investment, optimize its product matrix and service system. Relying on high-end products such as the J7 series, it will help upgrade South Africa’s logistics industry and inject new momentum into local economic growth. Meanwhile, South Africa will be built into a core pillar to achieve the overseas sales target of 180,000 units by 2030. The company will further deepen exchanges and cooperation in the automotive industry between China and South Africa, and continue to write a new chapter of friendship, mutual benefit and win-win results.

The person in charge of FAW Jiefang International signed a 100-unit procurement agreement with key customers on site, laying a solid foundation for the market development of the FAW J7 in South Africa.
