Another Milestone Achieved! FAW Jiefang Attains Dual Breakthroughs in Certification and Validation for "Dual-Zero Emission" Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines
Recently, the CA6HV3 heavy-duty hydrogen internal combustion engine (HICE), independently developed by FAW Jiefang, has successfully passed national environmental emission certification tests. It is the industry’s first HICE product featuring "dual-zero emissions". Meanwhile, the engine has completed over 100,000 kilometers of vehicle reliability validation, making FAW Jiefang the pioneer in the sector to secure dual breakthroughs encompassing both "complete engine environmental certification and full vehicle reliability verification".
This landmark achievement signifies that heavy-duty hydrogen internal combustion engine technology has advanced from a stage of "single certification only" to a full commercialization phase that places equal emphasis on certification and validation. It grants FAW Jiefang a first-mover advantage in the industrial application of heavy-duty hydrogen internal combustion engines.

The CA6HV3 HICE has conquered multiple core technical bottlenecks, including long-life self-developed fuel supply systems and low-cost high-efficiency SCR aftertreatment solutions. Its nitrogen oxide (NOₓ) emissions stand at merely 5% of the China National VI emission limit and an estimated 14% of the upcoming China National VII limit, truly fulfilling dual environmental goals of "zero carbon emissions" and near-zero pollutant emissions.
Engineered to align closely with commercial deployment demands, the engine is fully interchangeable with conventional power units. It requires no modifications to the vehicle’s thermal management architecture for adaptation, drastically shortening vehicle matching cycles and cutting retrofitting costs, thereby paving the way for the rapid market rollout of hydrogen internal combustion engines.

The Jiefang Xingyi J6V 49-ton tractor equipped with the CA6HV3 HICE has undergone 100,000 kilometers of scenario-based validation, covering real-world operating conditions such as trunk logistics, heavy-load climbing, high-temperature and frigid environments, as well as frequent start-stop cycles. The technical route combining a hydrogen internal combustion engine with high-efficiency SCR aftertreatment has fully demonstrated outstanding adaptability to diverse working conditions, with emissions consistently meeting standards throughout the vehicle’s entire service life cycle.
FAW Jiefang has invested years in the layout of hydrogen internal combustion engine technology. In June 2024, it unveiled the Jiefang Xingyi J6V 49-ton heavy-duty hydrogen internal combustion engine tractor in Qingdao, Shandong Province. In December of the same year, the world’s first dedicated production line for hydrogen internal combustion engines was officially put into operation at FAW Jiefang Dachai Factory, where the CA6HV3 HICE rolled off the assembly line concurrently. This milestone established FAW Jiefang as the first enterprise in the industry to build core manufacturing capacity for the industrialization of hydrogen internal combustion engines.
In parallel, FAW Jiefang actively fulfills its responsibility as an industry leader. It provides comprehensive real-world vehicle operation data to accelerate the formulation of complete vehicle standards, taking concrete actions to comprehensively speed up the industrialization of commercial vehicles powered by hydrogen internal combustion engines and inject fresh momentum into the high-quality development of China’s automotive industry.
